LAKE ERIE WALLEYE TROPHY FISHING
CHARTERS IN OHIO
For Ohio
trophy fishing charters and news or
information check with Captain Art Miller, your Lake Erie fishing guide.
Captain Art will post Lake Erie walleye fishing reports here or you can join a
mailing list if you wish and have them emailed directly to you. We are
hoping for another good year on Lake Erie with plenty of legal sized walleyes
and some of those trophy wall hangers to catch.
Our privacy policy is this: We will NEVER
give out your email address to any 3rd party. If you wish to have questions
answered or news or other updates emailed you can rest assured your address will
be held confidential. (You will never receive junk mail because you requested

2007
Happy new year anglers.
I hope all of your holidays were excellent and your families are well. I
spent the holidays over Christmas and New Year in Florida this year. I had
the opportunity to do some fishing in the gulf this year out of Sanibel Marina
on "Copenhagen Charters" with Captain Neville Robeson. We had some
excellent fishing days. If anyone is in that area and interested in a
fishing charter please give Captain Neville a call at 239-466-2664.
.......mid January and we are
finally feeling what winter is here in northeast Ohio. The first two weeks
of January were extremely mild and the trout were readily taking baits of all
sorts for drift and fly rod fishermen alike. The stream access is starting
to shut down due to the cold and it will not be long until we are forced to quit
wading and wait for the ice to be thick enough to fish.
Remember, early bookings
ensure prime dates for your charter fishing. Our Saturdays are all booked
for the 2007 season. I have to make another Florida trip & will
write soon after I get back.
..............February
11th - I arrived back in Northeast
Ohio just in time for some real cold weather and major snow to be coming this
next week. Most of this trip was work but I did get a chance to get out
one day on Copenhagen Charters.......thanks Captain Neville, I had an excellent
time. The ice has got thick enough to get on and now that I'm back I'll
give a shout after we get to find some good fishing
..............late February -
We have been hitting trout through the ice from Conneaut, Ohio through Presque
Isle, PA. The trout have been fussy at times but we have been hitting them
on jigs tipped with minnows and live minnow rigs. Everything is frozen
solid here but every day is one step closer to spring. The Conneaut fish &
Game club's annual youth trout derby is May 19th this year. It is getting
more and more popular and it is just a wonderful time for the kids. Mark
your calendar for the event & take a child fishing. Last year Lucky Strike
Sport fishing's grand prize was won at the derby by lucky angler Thomas Wickline.
(see 2006 for details) Thomas's parents had the fish mounted for him and
we were able to get the family on Lake Erie for more trophy fishing charters. Below are pictures of the 2006 derby and as you can
see there was excellent participation and 2007 should be better yet.
We hope to participate in the derby with a grand prize fish in the pond once
again for a lucky angler to have a chance at!......Captain Art

March 2nd...........
We did fairly well for steelhead trout through the ice the last few days in Ohio
and Pennsylvania. The last day of February gave us a good bite with people
all over catching trout. This may have been due to river flow as we had
some warming & runoff. Last night we had a heavy rainfall for hours and
I'm sure its going to change all of our fishing for the next few days. I'm
leaving today for a charter captains conference this weekend and afterwards I
will post some highlights of that conference when I return. Hang
tight.......the rivers will return soon to allow us wading once again. God
bless............Captain Art
Up to March 13th..........the
ice in the harbors is rapidly diminishing as the weather has been warmer.
Due to the ice and snow melting the streams are running muddy and high, so this
leaves us with minimal good fishing opportunities. If we do not get rain
it looks as though a few days may make the streams good to fish and access there
due to huge ice jams will certainly be improving.
If anyone is interested in
donating gifts for the children fishing in the Conneaut youth trout derby you
could contact the captain and he will be sure to get them in the club's hands
prior to the event. It won't be long before Captain Art will catch a
trophy sized trout and put it in the pond for some lucky youth angler to get a
chance at. I can hardly wait to see those smiles on all of the kids faces.
Here is the official flyer for the event:

Until then, calm
weather, good luck, and all of our friends please throw a prayer out for
"Captain Diamond Jim" from Dana Point, CA who needs more back
surgery, good luck Jim.....................Captain Art
Until the end of March........We
fortunately have missed the rain they have been predicting for the last week.
This has left us with primo conditions in the rivers & streams and the steelhead
trout have been on fire. This accounts for many limit catches as many of
the fish are now in the shallows and can be sight fished. I personally put
one in the top ten this past week in the annual Grand River tackle trout
tournament. With only two days left in the tournament I hope it at least
stays there. The activity in the marinas has increased as the boat fleets
are getting readied for the season. 2007 should be another banner year for
walleye on Lake Erie so don't miss it. Good friends & tight
lines.............Captain Art
......through
April 22nd.......After the wonderful
snowfall we received at Easter it seems the weather has finally made a turn for
the better. We just put a steelhead trout in the pond at the Conneaut fish
& game club's trout pond. This fish is tagged and I will put more
information up soon about the fish. Hopefully another lucky youth will
catch it during the trout derby in Conneaut and win the grand prize.......an all
expense paid charter for four on the Lucky Strike. The marinas are finally
showing the signs of spring fever as many are now showing up and getting their
boats ready for the season. I'm expecting another banner year for walleye
so if anyone is interested please do not miss 2007! Until then happy faces
and tight lines.........Captain Art
Beginning of June.........the
2007 Ashtabula, Ohio walleye bite is on and I'm expecting it to be a year
everyone will not forget. The 2003 class fish are now just primo size for
eating and the fish are hungry and eager to take baits. Although we don't
have any weekends available for the season we could get you on an afternoon
charter on a weekend for a reduced rate. We have some available weekdays
in June and don't let them pass you by. June is an excellent month and the
weather seems to cooperate well. Thank everyone who has just visited us
and I hope we lived up to your expectations of what a Lake Erie fishing charter
should be. Good friends, better stories, and the best walleye fishing in
America! Come visit us on Lake Erie and experience first hand what the
hype is all about................Captain Art
mid June..............the
lake and weather conditions have been just as good as they get as the walleye
hunt continues to be excellent. We have pulled quite a few fish Ohio
awards this past week with the best being an 11# 31" caught this past Tuesday by
a lucky angler Doug Leasure. I'm sure Doug it will be a fish you'll always
remember. Kids are always fun and we had a young angler who had a cast on
each arm from two broken wrists.....but that did not stop him from having a
wonderful day and reeling in those walleye. As the season kicks into high
gear it's living up to my expectations of what 2007 would bring. For all
who have fished with us already thank you and I look forward to seeing the rest
of you soon........good friends, tight lines........Captain Art
through mid July........and
what a season! We have had a few tough days but for the most part we have
sent customers home with limit catches and true trophies of a
lifetime.......some of them have made their ways to the taxidermist and in a few
short months will be displayed as the true trophies they are. We have now
switched all the gear to more of our usual summertime presentations although the
fish have been relatively close allowing small boat anglers to cash in on this
great resource. Thus far our weather in 2007 has been wonderful and we
have managed to get the charters out & not cancel due to bad weather. I'm
looking forward to the rest of the summer and seeing the rest of you still to
come in 2007...............tight lines, good weather, great company!
Captain Art
beginning of August........and
the walleye bite in Ashtabula Ohio just continues to produce some excellent
catches. The acrobatic steelhead has shown up in most anglers coolers as
well. Many people have told me they never had the opportunity to catch
them, so for the anglers who were lucky enough to hook and land them I'm sure
you have enjoyed those bonus fish. We have switched over to our stick bait
presentations and have been seeking the elusive trophy walleye in some further
offshore hiding places. The weather has continued to be good for the most
part although we did cancel this morning due to heavy seas & higher winds.
If anyone has been waiting for their pictures to show up on the web or waiting
for me to send your groups pictures please drop an email request. Although
I'd rather be fishing I did manage to get some good PM work done on the Lucky
Strike so she is armed & ready for your next fishing adventure! See you on
the water...........Captain Art
through mid
September........... and 2007 has more
than lived up to my expectations of what our fishing season should be like.
Its really hard to believe that we have enjoyed a serious walleye bite in
Ashtabula, Ohio for almost four months now - that is nothing short of
spectacular! Thank everyone who has visited us this year and God willing
we hope to see you again next season. Heavy coolers and good sized
fish.......Ashtabula, Ohio just continues to live up to its reputation helping
Lake Erie to continue it's reputation as walleye capitol of the world. The
perch season has also lit up and excellent numbers are showing up. We
still have some open dates left which we should be able to get you walleye (if
you book soon) or good catches of perch. We have been booking dates for
2008 and if you need prime dates for next season remember weekends go very fast.
Many have asked for information about winter steelhead fishing. There is
no better way to catching trout than stream fishing during the season.
Good company, great fishing and best friends.......what a way to share a day on
Lake Erie........Captain Art
nearly mid October...........
and the perch bite in Ashtabula Ohio
has been on big time! Excellent weather and calm waters combined have made
limit catches in short order a regular event in our harbor. Beyond that
the size of the fish have also been good with many catches nearing the 1/2
#/fish average. Soon the marinas will be closing and the 2007 boating
season will be winding down. Going to make this short for now so sharing time
with great friends on the water will bring special memories........something
that can never be taken away! Tight lines and calm seas.........Captain
Art
through the end of
October...........and the perch bite
in Ashtabula Ohio has continued to be impressive. Unfortunately the Lucky
Strike has not been able to get into the action because we have finished our
boating season, Kister Marina is officially closed for 2007, and the Lucky
Strike is hibernating indoors looking forward to 2008!!!! Remember,
Captain Art will be fishing for the acrobatic steelhead trout throughout the
boating off-season. If anyone is interested in finding out what Ohio has
to offer in their steelhead trout program please contact the captain.
I want to extend special thank you to
everyone who has visited us this season.......after all you are the ones who
helped make this fish catching season as successful as it was and I'm sure
everyone can attest to experiencing first hand the wonderful fishery we have on
Lake Erie in Ashtabula, OH.
God bless all of you and have a safe, healthy, and happy winter. Good
friends, fond memories, tight lines......Captain Art
through the week after
Thanksgiving.......... the steelhead
trout have been co-operating well when the conditions are right. The
Thursday before Thanksgiving was so incredible that trying to explain it even to
an experienced angler would be difficult. The fish were so many as well as
suicidal and lets just say that you would have had to be there. We have
recently been catching some trout while pitching spoons further downstream to
the main lake. This is a change of pace from the shallower wading
conditions and can be lots of fun. We had a few anglers out today 11-24-07
and it was probably a 20+ fish day of landing success even though the conditions
due to recent rains have left the rivers and streams high and muddy. The
colder weather has arrived and now the onset of our winter fishery will be in
full force. Great friends, tight lines & favorable wading conditions -
thank you all.........Captain Art
through mid
December..........slush, ice, heavy
rainfall, & high muddy waters.......it's either been one thing or three others
keeping us from pursuing the steelhead trout in the tributaries of Lake Erie.
The trout have been co-operative when we have been able to have fair fishing
waters. Unlike the boating season when day in & day out the conditions
remain the same the stream fishery can change very rapidly, within hours.
As we near the end of the year and our holidays are upon us I look back to this
past season and wow - did it ever whiz by me. I know it's a difficult time
to be thinking about the 2008 boating season but our weekends are already
filling up for 2008. Those who need weekends please get in touch so we may
pencil you in for your 2008 charter. In the meantime be careful in your
travels and enjoy your holidays. Holidays.....sharing time with family &
friends, God bless you, Captain Art
