For Ohio trophy fishing charters and news or information check with Captain Art Miller, your Lake Erie fishing guide.  Captain Art will post Lake Erie walleye fishing reports here or you can join a mailing list if you wish and have them emailed directly to you.  We are hoping for another good year on Lake Erie with plenty of legal sized walleyes and some of those trophy wall hangers to catch.

Our privacy policy is this:  We will NEVER give out your email address to any 3rd party.  If you wish to have questions answered or news or other updates emailed you can rest assured your address will be held confidential.  2010

Happy new year everyone!  I don't know about you but 2009 blew by so fast I can hardly believe it's actually 2010.  I hope all of you have had an excellent holiday season and wish you a prosperous New Year.

We have some good news for you:

We're freezing these rates again in 2010!!!

That's right - no price increases in 2010!!

Hopefully that may encourage you to take a trip to Ashtabula, Ohio and find out for yourselves what others have been talking about!  Lake Erie - walleye capital of the world......Ashtabula, Ohio - home of legendary walleye catches!!

..........early January and we finally started to get to our real winter and have been getting pounded with snow this past week.  Some people have had good success ice fishing the inland lakes since the cold weather has set in & allowed them to do so.  Our next steelhead fishing will no doubt be drilling holes in the ice!

Although 2009 got a late start & early ending for our fishing season in Ashtabula, Ohio I think we managed to say it was a successful year.  Anyone who has visited knows that the fishing has been awesome and hopefully 2010 will once again be a great fishing year.  Thank all of you for your continued patronage and I look forward to seeing everyone once again this year.

Good friends, calm seas & tight lines......God bless you all and God bless America.....Captain Art

.........through mid February and I don't have much news to report from fishing in the Ashtabula Ohio area of Lake Erie.  There is ice as far as you can see.  We have tried steelhead trout fishing through the ice but so far have not done very well.  The 2010 Lake Erie charter captains conference will be here in a few weeks.  Hopefully we will be able to pass good news onto everyone that we find out at the conference.  For anyone interested about the asain carp (which is a great concern for all of us in the great lakes) here is some information I received from NACO about the next meeting:

Until then, good friends, calm seas & tight lines......God bless you all and God bless America.....Captain Art

.........wow mid March already........We have been capturing a great smelt bite for the last month or so.  Normally we have fished at night for them but lately we have been fishing for 2-3 hours in the afternoon.  This has rewarded us with 100-300 smelts for each angler to take home.  Considering this is hook & line & not netting I don't think it's too bad.

Last week we went to the annual charter captains conference in Sandusky, OH.  The limits for walleye and yellow perch for 2010 are still pending.  During this next year the walleye population in Lake Erie could be getting (in Ohio DNR's eyes) to the critical stage.  As figures come in I'm sure some catch adjustments are in the making but we won't know until the first of May what the 2010 limits will be.

Let's hope that Uncle Sam doesn't drag his feet about the Asian Carp issues.  I sent everyone on my email list a link to view the web stream live.  I watched it all and made comments which I watched them say they received & what they were.  I told them guess what, while you're studying this the fish are still swimming.  Lock the gates then decide what to do about the decision!  More wake up America!!!!  We can only hope that politics don't mess this up because it would be catastrophic if the Asian Carp took over the great lakes!

The weather has warmed the last few days.  There was a lot of snow on the ground which is melting and causing river levels to flow over the banks.  If we get the rains they are talking about I'm sure it will lead to tributary areas flooding.  The lake has a lot of ice on it and soon we will be in the spring thaw mode & another angling year will start on the lake.  I'm hoping we can continue to show customers just how good this fishing resource is.  Last year started slow & late and ended early.  We did get some great days during our prime summertime walleye.

...........early June and warmer weather is finally showing up again.  Following suit to the warming trend the perch and walleye fishing has been heating up on the Ashtabula coastline.  June is normally an excellent weather month for fishing but during the past week we have been dodging severe thunderstorm predictions.  This may scatter the fish for awhile but when things settle down again we may very well be into the summer time swing of things.

So for all of our USA Ohio tourists and fishermen........join us for a day of fun on Lake Erie.  Visit Ashtabula Ohio and find out not only why Lake Erie has been dubbed the walleye capital of the world.  You get to fish Ashtabula Ohio ~ Home of legendary walleye catches!

Until then, good friends, calm seas & tight lines......God bless you all and God bless America.....Captain Art
