2004
July 4th weekend.
The perch bite has been hot! hot!
hot! Check perch pics to see some photos. Thank goodness because the
walleye bite is very slow right now. Lets hope the continual change in
weather and water temperature brings some good schools into our area and heats
up the summer walleye fishing as well.
Recently Lucky Strike was contacted
by one of our American soldiers stationed in Iraq. He requested some items
which we were happy to send to him. He should be receiving them this week
and as soon as we get his permission I will post his story under our news.
In the meantime I would like to say
thank you to all of our soldiers and let them know that the Lucky Strike team is
always praying for them so God bless all of you and God bless America.
July 10-11th
The perch continued to be hot and
the walleye were good to us as well this weekend. Take a look at the photo
gallery/walleyes and see a couple of new pictures taken of Pat Sommers with his
32" - 10 lb walleye he caught on Sunday, 7/11/2004. I posted Pat's email
he sent. We will be hitting the water hard and will post more news & pics
asap.
August......up to the 21st.......The
walleye bite has been on for the past few weeks. The fish are a short
distance from our harbor. Thank everyone who has come up to fish and I
believe most of you left with a comfortable trip and good catch! If the
walleye stay near our harbor for as long as they did last year I'm sure it will
be a banner year for us. If anyone knows anyone that wants walleye send
them here NOW!
August 27-30
Fished for perch & took our limit
with good size fish. Fished for walleyes the last three days and the bite
was good although the weather conditions were tough. Stickbaits on wire
line have done well for the last two months on the walleye. Dipsy divers
with Stinger spoons have been taking walleye and the occasional steelhead trout.
A few days ago worm harnesses fished on wire lines with discs saved our day and
we took large walleye on them. The steelhead trout will soon be starting
to visit our tributary streams. If we don't get hit with any cold rain and
heavy blows from the upcoming hurricane we may be able to catch the walleyes as
late as last year.
The story about the soldier
stationed in Iraq:
In late June I was contacted by
letter (see the copy below) from MSG Steven R. Logan stationed in Baghdad,
Iraq. He had a modest request for lures or lines or whatever so he could
wet a line. Talk about putting things in perspective! Here I am
fishing all the time while our armed forces are fighting for the rights which
everyone in our country enjoys.
I immediately sent Steven a rod &
reel, line, hooks, lures, etc. with a letter stating my thanks to him and
asking him to tell the other soldiers that my prayers are with them all.
Below is a copy of the original letter from Steven

We told Steven that
Lucky Strike Sport fishing supports our troops and told him God bless them all
and God bless America. Then we received another letter from Steven in
August. The copy is below

Well Steve this is your online
"you're welcome" I hope it cools off enough for you to fish and I really
hope you are able to catch something with what we sent you and I get to see some
pictures. I will make a special section for them in our photo gallery. I
don't know if you have any internet access there. If so, I would like to
extend another thank you and I will write soon.
September 3rd-6th (Labor day
weekend) The weather was great and the perch and walleye fishing was as
good as it gets. It reminded me of what we call the "old days".......while
starting to set rods for walleye trolling the fish were jumping on the baits
right away & fish were on before the second rods were set in the water.
Everything set in the water was taking fish. Thank all of you who have
come to Ashtabula and fished with us and I'll certainly be looking forward to
your returns.
September 9-14
The walleye are continuing to
cooperate despite the wind blowing for a few days as remnants of the hurricane
made their way north. We hooked quite a few steelhead trout and some real
nice sized fish. Soon they will be targeting the streams. The perch
fishing was hot hot hot. The 9/12 trip with Stan White's group with three
young men.....boy those kids could fish! Tell them Captain Art said
wonderful job! Their group caught the 7:30 am bridge, fished 8 plus miles
from the harbor and dropped their cooler of 210 perch off at River Marine at
10:45 am to have them cleaned.
Sept 16-19
Cancelled trips due to heavy
seas....sorry about that guys. We're better off rescheduling instead of
beating people up on the water and giving you a very uncomfortable trip.
Lets hope you get a good bite when you get back to the lake.
Dr. Frank....we will be in touch.
October.....many heavy sea and
cancellation days. The perch bite was sure good when you can get on the
water. Started stream fishing. The water was very low and super
clear but the steelhead were very cooperative. Took many limits of Ohio
fish. Took some PA steelhead but the bite was not as good for us.
Jack Donley - have a safe trip back
to Florida. Sorry we couldn't get you more perch to take back but at least
you will be able to tell your friends what the boat looks like first
hand......and I'm glad I got to help you celebrate your birthday.....the ice
cream cake was great! Have fun on Party Poker!
November-December....The steelhead fishing
has been hot-hot-hot. Many limits of fish are being taken. We have
targeted more of the Ohio streams and as soon as I get some film finished I will
post some pictures. The water levels have risen and as of right now, Dec
12th the streams are blown out and we are getting a good snow.
